Sugarloaf Lodge: A right place to be

If you want a total recharge, especially if you live in Auckland, and don’t want to drive more than an hour, then the Matakana Coast Wine Country is the answer, and Sugarloaf Lodge is the place.

This really is a special place. Just 4 minutes down the road from the sleepy village of Matakana, Sugarloaf has an idyllic location, up a long driveway on the slopes of Sugarloaf Hill, and set amongst five acres of lush countryside, orchard and beautiful gardens.

Magnolia, Oak, Silver Birch, Roses, and Feijoas & Camellia Hedges lead you to the very private Guest Suites, with spacious en-suites in their own purpose-built and designed Guest Cottage. From there, in fact from your own bed, you have amazing, exquisite, 180degree rural and sea views, over the Point Wells and Omaha plains. This magnificent view is bordered by Ti Point to the north and Tawharanui Peninsular to the south, and out across the Hauraki Gulf to the Great & Little Barrier Islands.

Every day is different, but every day you feel blessed to have found such a magic spot. Sunrises to stir the spirit, yachts at anchor and rows and rows of perfectly aligned verdant Matakana vines. Tuscany started it, Matakana does it even better.

With Sugarloaf Lodge as your 4 ½ star B&B base, and after indulging in a wonderfully healthy breakfast in the garden conservatory, you then have all the delights of this captivating area to enjoy at your leisure.

If you’re sensible you’ve booked in for at least 2 nights Accommodation, because there are far too many wineries and secluded sandy beaches to delight in, with any less time. And that’s before you enjoy the boat cruise to Kawau, the Sculpture Trail at Brick Bay Winery, the Sawmill Brewery at Big Omaha or any one of the fabulous Regional Parks..... and the list goes on.

Yes, if I had the time and I wanted to make somebody really happy, I’d be heading to Sugarloaf Lodge, Matakana, under one hour north of Auckland, at the next opportunity.
